do art yourself
Jeder Mann ist ein Curator/ Every man is a curator, 16th of June, 2007
Our member from Slovenia (part of former Yugoslavia and now part of Eurpean Union) suggested an action on the occasion of renewing the National Gallery of Modern Art in Ljubljana. Namely the National Gallery of Modern Art prepared the exhibition titled "Every man is a curator" which was also translated into German "Jeden mensh ist ein Curator" and in English. /German translation possibly indicates Beuys's statement about everybody is being an artist...
Our member expressed the opinion that the National Gallery of Modern Art in Ljubljana is not wide open for artists but rather very closed: so he wrote a poem about the problems concerning the conduction of the gallery and the problems which were also connected to the national policy. Here is the poem in Slovenian language. The poem was printed on A4 paper and delivered by two uniformed hostesses in front of the Modern Gallery in Ljubljana. The poem is about the history of the Modern Gallery and about the encounter, where ghost of the founder of Modern Gallery (Izidor Cankar) meets today's director (Zdenka Badovinac). She doesn't recognize him but anyway she tells about this encounter to her board (mostly connected to the members of Neue Slovenische Kunst) and they try to exorcise all bad things, including the problems with the government) with simple renovation of the building.
Our member chose the pseudonym "Č'belica" after the title of well known Slovene anthology which was published in 19th century. "Č'belica" means a "bee".
